Sen. Graham Does the Expected   [Matthew J. Franck]

At least I expected it.  The day Graham was rude and condescending to Judge Sotomayor, grilling her about her temperament and telling her that "maybe these hearings are a time for self-reflection," I knew for certain that he was going to vote for her confirmation.  Some of his questions were good ones, but too many of his comments were objectionably personal.  This was all about giving himself cover with his constituents for voting for her, enabling him to say that at least he was "tough" on her in the hearings.  He hasn't spent the last week making up his mind; he knew exactly what he was going to do all along.  And if he was going to vote for her, the least he could have done was be nicer.
